Anton Gusakovsky
In 2024, after graduating from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet, Anton was conscripted for compulsory military service in the Academic Song and Dance Ensemble of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus.
Confronted with the military system, Anton chose to treat his service as a space for acquiring new bodily experience — often difficult and traumatic. Observations, regular physical practices, and reading led to the creation of a work in which Anton shares this experience through a fusion of military and contemporary dance.
Anton’s work invites reflection on how a person can exist within disciplinary systems. Is it possible to preserve one’s movement, one’s body, one’s will within them? How can the body, even when subjected to a rigid structure, become a space and an instrument of personal freedom?
